Living papers

Research papers you can actually read

Every paper on papers.qnfo.org opens as a living paper. The words are the author’s, unchanged. The page around them does the work a PDF leaves to you: it shows the shape of the paper, typesets its mathematics, explains a reference without losing your place, and answers questions from the paper itself, with citations.

What every paper page does

See the whole paper at once

A contents rail follows you down the page and a progress bar shows how far you are. Every section has a link you can share.

Mathematics, tables and code, rendered

Formulas are typeset, tables are tables, and code keeps its lines. Nothing is a picture of text.

References without the scroll

Hover or focus a citation such as [12] to read the reference in place, then carry on reading.

Ask the paper

Ask in plain language. The answer is written from the paper, which is always source [1], and every claim points to the passage or paper it came from.

Select, ask, quote

Select a passage to ask about exactly that passage, or copy it as a quote that carries its citation.

Context, versions and related work

The concepts the paper touches in the QNFO knowledge graph, every version of the work, and its nearest neighbours in the library.

Cite in one click

APA, BibTeX or plain text, with the permanent DOI where the paper has one.

Open by default

Free, no account, no paywall, a licence on every paper, and RSS, a sitemap and llms.txt for machines.

What it is not

These are one researcher’s preprints, prepared with an AI-assisted research pipeline; they are not peer reviewed, and the author is responsible for the content. Every paper states its claim, how it was tested and its status. The format is an experiment in making dense research readable; it does not change what a paper says or make it more right.

The rendering is automatic. A few older papers came through word-processor conversions and still show formatting defects, and the Ask panel is rate-limited so it stays free. If something reads badly, say so: rowan.quni@qnfo.org.

The Joules-per-Solution metric is a good first paper: it has sections, equations, references and a knowledge-graph context to try every feature on. Or search the library.
